Body Image and Self-Esteem in Women with Breast Cancer at the José Carrasco Arteaga Specialty Hospital, Ecuador

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most prevalent neoplasm in women worldwide and nationally, so there a need to investigate changes that are generated life of patient at physical, psychological social levels.Objective: Determining body image self-esteem with breast treated "José Carrasco Arteaga" Specialty Hospital, Cuenca 2022 -2023.Methodology: A quantitative study, cross-sectional analytical design was carried out sample 141 Hospital. direct interview participants study applying questionnaire sociodemographic clinical data elaborated by authors, Hopwood Body Image scale Rosenberg Self –Esteem scale. The analysis performed SPSS v24.0 program using descriptive inferential statistics, considering statistically significant results p<0.05 values.
 Results: Of participants, 70.9% have high disturbance 17.7% low degree self-esteem. In addition, association identified between variables, age (p-value=0.000), marital status (p-value=0.039), employment (value= 0.011). Similarly, type treatment p-value = 0.048.Conclusion: dissatisfaction evident women, however, they presented self -esteem.
